In this blog post, we've compiled a mini Q&A featuring some of the most recent questions from the Let's Talk Weddings community. Our expert team has provided thoughtful and informative answers.
Q: Can anybody advise as to how much is appropriate to tip the wedding coordinator and hotel manager? Also, other staff that serve?
A: This is a difficult answer to give, because honestly, a tip is never expected. However, if you feel a certain individual or group of staff is deserving of a tip or a token of gratuity, we would recommend including a handwritten thank you note as a thoughtful way to express your appreciation for excellent service.
Q: Feeling completely dejected at the lack of Mrs & Mrs options in decor. Any tips? I know I can just buy two sets of Mr & Mrs and discard the 2 Mr etc.
A: Online shops like Etsy can be quite good for such items. Unfortunately, there is such a lack of "walk-in" shops that offer same sex wedding décor which does sometimes mean buying two of items that catch your eye. Have a chat to your wedding venue to see if they have anything they can offer.
Q: I am looking for some advice on walking down the aisle songs and after we get married songs too? I can't decide, I feel like so many are over used that they don't mean anything anymore! I am looking at some Savage Garden music, either Truly Madly Deeply or I Knew I love you, something along those lines. Also, something a little upbeat for walking back down the aisle after getting married? We are both a little introverted so nothing crazy.
A: Both your suggested Savage Garden songs actually would be a great choice for an entrance song ❤ They're both over the 4 min mark too, which can be important if you have a large bridal party or long aisle for your ceremony. Check our our blog post on the most popular ceremony songs in 2023 here.
Q: Does anyone have any tips for what it's like to have a wedding just after Christmas around New Year's? It seems like a good idea because family are on annual leave etc, but I'm just wondering what people's experience with it is? I've never been to a Christmas/New Year's wedding but they seem like good fun. We were thinking of the immediate few days following New Year's.
A: A Christmas wedding can be such a magical time and really enhance the atmosphere of the day for you and your guests. Over the last few years, we have found many couples selecting the dates right at the start of January with the benefit of having friends and family available with the added bonus of having something to look forward to after the NYEs celebrations.
Q: Me and my Fiancé don’t have any children or any nieces or nephews for flower girls or page boys is it ok to have none?
A: Absolutely! Remember, there are no rules when it comes to weddings and many of our weddings here. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to have flower girls or page boys is up to you and your fiancé. The most important thing is to choose what feels right for your special day.
Q: Does anyone know anywhere I could get signage printed myself for the day?
A: There are lots of printing shops that can offer on-the-spot printing for different items such as table plans etc. Check out the many template options on Canva. This site is very user-friendly and allows you to download any designs to be ready to send over to a printer.
Q: Hi all, I am curious on how people do the drinks at the wedding. Do you have bar tabs or what happens? A lot of our guests don’t drink wine, so we feel that would be a waste on most people.
A: A lot of couples forgo having wine with their meal for the same reasons you have outlined (many of their guests not being wine drinkers) and choose to have us take an order for a drink when we take a food order and serve this at a designated time/designated times (e.g. just after starters or before main course etc.) It ensures guests can order the drink of their choice, keeping everyone happy. This would also eliminate the need to do up drink vouchers.
Q: We attended a wedding recently were there was someone taking photos of all the couples going into the church. When we got to the table for dinner, they had key rings with that photo on the table made of us as wedding favours. So quick! Great idea. Can anyone recommend a service that does this please?
A: Noel from Clikring.ie comes highly recommended by us here. It’s a great idea for a wedding favour for your guests.
Q: We just booked our venue so it’s all getting real now!! It’s a January 2026 wedding so when should we send out our RSPVs? We’re currently overseas and won’t be home till like 2 weeks before the wedding.
A: Our recommendation would be to notify guests as soon as possible to your chosen date and venue. This would allow ample time for travel arrangements and securing accommodation. Given the current undersupply of accommodation throughout the country at the moment, early notice is so important.
Q: We are going to view our first venue tomorrow. Any advice on what we should ask etc? We hope to get married sometime in 2025. It's a small venue only about 80 guests. I hope it's doable for 2025. We have been together a long time and engaged a short-time we just don't want to wait any longer! Any advice would be great!!
A: There can be an unlimited number of questions that would be relevant to each couple as they begin the journey of viewing wedding venues. However, a good starting point is our suggested list of questions that we covered in a blog post earlier this year here.
Q: Silly question, but do you need to let the hotel know what suppliers you have booked? Looking at getting a LED wedding sign from a supplier up north but wondering if I need to let the hotel know.
A: Yes, absolutely let your venue know. Personally speaking, your wedding venue will want to know all details for your day down to every fine detail and more than likely will ask you directly on any extra décor you plan to hire or bring in for the day. Even let them know WHERE you plan to put décor items in your venue - this will help identify any potential issues that may need to be addressed and discussed beforehand.
