For years, wedding favours were the traditional way of offering something small and sweet as a way of saying thank you to your guests and showing gratitude for sharing such a special day. Whether it was a little box of sweets, a keyring or mini-alcohol bottles, the wedding favour was a traditional staple in an Irish wedding.
However, over the last few years, we have noticed a slight decline in the popularity of providing wedding favours for guests. More and more wedding couples are choosing not to provide a traditional wedding favour at each place setting. The reasons for this will vary; from personal choice to budgetary. One main reason, however, has been a switch in trends. The explosion in popularity of items such as sweet carts, photo booths, selfie mirrors, donut walls, ice cream bikes and many more have seen focus switch to adding such items to the day for guests to enjoy and often these items are added at the expense of the more traditional wedding favour.
Here at Lucan Spa Hotel, we still are huge fans of including wedding favours for your guests. As we have spoken about before in our previous blog posts, we love anything that adds a splash of personality or enhances a theme or colour scheme! And wedding favours are definitely one simple, but effective method for doing both.
Inspired by Mena and Abdelrahman’s simply gorgeous wedding favours here a few weeks ago, we’ve listed some of our favourite wedding favour ideas to help inspire some ideas for your own wedding planning. Enjoy!
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
Krispy Kreme popularity in Ireland cannot be understated. Their Blanchardstown branch is one of their most successful stores in the world and they recently announced plans to open a second store in Dublin. Take advantage of their popularity and treat your guests to a donut each. Add the finishing touch by including in a personalised container box to enjoy with a cuppa tae after your meal.

Personalised Sports Items
Are you a golf-mad groom or a die-hard Dublin GAA fan bride? Why not incorporate this into your wedding day with a cheeky token for your guests. We’ve seen personalised golf balls as wedding favours, or miniature stress balls shaped as footballs or sliotars! Again, something very easily personalised or placed in a stylist presentation box..

Irish Jam or Marmalades
Spread the love to your wedding guests with a cute miniature jar of your favourite jam, marmalade or preserve. Label them with your names and wedding date and a cute little message for the finishing touch and you’re on to an immediate winner.

Scented Candles
Once again, take advantage of a booming industry and choose your favourite scented candles to gift within mini candles tins or votives for your wedding guests. A perfect favour gift for winter weddings. Go one step further by including your choice of scented candles for throughout the day. Our own personal favourite is Yankee’s “Black Cherry”.

Glassware
Glassware is always a very popular choice for wedding favours. Ideally, you don’t want to have your favours too big, so glasses such as shot glasses or whiskey tumblers work great. The result is a wedding favour that guests are happy to take home and use again and again! As always, go that extra yard by having them personalised through inscription or simple stickers or labels.

A little taste of our Honeymoon
A few years ago, we hosted a wedding whereby the happy couple included a miniature bottle of Ouzo each for their wedding guests. They were labelled with “A little taste of our upcoming honeymoon” (they were off to Create the next day!) Simply stunning! A great idea that offers endless opportunity.

Let Sparks Fly
Night time photography is becoming more and more popular, as couples seek some final photos before retiring for the night! So why not include sparklers as a wedding favour for your guests to use for those end-of-the-night outdoor photos!

Personalised CD Favours
Go a bit old-school and offer a mixed CD as your wedding favour for guests. Presented in a personalised sleeve or designed label, these can include songs from your wedding ceremony music as well as your first dance and your favourite tracks performed throughout the night.

Customised Bottle Openers
Certainly not a unique idea, but definitely something that would be appreciated but your guests. I personally still have one on my keys from a wedding I attended years ago! Just a simple idea that has been so useful and helps my mind reminisce on a great day (and night!)
